We’re pleased to confirm that United Mortgages® has been accredited by the Good Business Charter (GBC) – the UK’s benchmark for responsible business practice.
What is the Good Business Charter?
The Good Business Charter is an independent, not-for-profit accreditation scheme. It was …developed with the backing of the Confederation of British Industry, the Trades Union Congress, and the Federation of Small Businesses, giving it credibility across both the business and worker-representation sides of the table.
Unlike scored or partial accreditations, GBC works on an all-or-nothing basis. To be accredited, an organisation has to meet every one of ten components.
The ten components
To hold GBC accreditation, an organisation must commit to:
- Paying the real Living Wage
- Fairer hours and contracts, including fair treatment on zero-hours arrangements
- Employee wellbeing
- Employee representation and voice
- Equality, diversity and inclusion
- Environmental responsibility
- Paying a fair share of tax
- A clear commitment to customers
- Ethical sourcing
- Prompt payment to suppliers
Why we signed up
“We signed up to the Good Business Charter because we wanted an external, non-negotiable standard to hold ourselves to – not just a set of values we say we have. Ten components, no partial marks, checked rather than self-declared. That’s the kind of accountability we think a firm advising people on their biggest financial decision should be signing up for.” – Daniel Oakey, co-founder and CTO
What this means in practice
Being GBC accredited means we’ve formally committed to all ten components above, and that this is checked as part of the accreditation process rather than something we simply state about ourselves. If you’d like to see the detail behind any of the ten components, the Good Business Charter has a public directory of accredited organisations and further information on its website.
